Antique Aurora Hunter Case Pocket Watch c.1886 | 18 Size, Engraved Case
ITEM-2662

Product Details
Offered is an antique Aurora Watch Company hunter case pocket watch manufactured in the United States circa 1886. Early Aurora production remains increasingly scarce, with surviving examples representing an important part of late 19th-century American horological history. This piece reflects the craftsmanship and decorative artistry typical of the Victorian era.
The watch is housed
in a substantial 18-size yellow gold-filled hunter case featuring a finely
engraved village scene on the exterior cover. The case is graded C-3 and
remains in very good condition, with the engraving still clearly visible and
well-preserved. Hunter cases of this type were designed to protect the crystal
and dial beneath a hinged front cover, a popular and practical style during the
late 1800s.
The interior
reveals a white single-sunk porcelain dial with bold Roman numerals and spade
hands. The dial is graded D-3 and remains in very good condition, showing
honest wear consistent with age while retaining strong legibility and visual
appeal.
Powering the watch
is a signed 15-jewel gilt movement with full-plate layout and lever-set
configuration. Graded M-3, the movement remains in very good condition and
exemplifies the traditional construction methods used in American watchmaking
during this period. Full-plate gilt movements are particularly admired for
their classical appearance and robust mechanical design.
Serial number
127,558 dates this Aurora hunter case pocket watch to approximately 1886,
placing it firmly within the Victorian era of American horology. Watches from
this early production period are increasingly difficult to encounter in
well-preserved condition, especially examples retaining attractive engraved
cases and original porcelain dials.
Combining early
American manufacture, decorative case engraving, and a traditional full-plate
gilt movement, this Aurora hunter case pocket watch represents a desirable
example for collectors of 19th-century American timepieces.

Aurora
Watch Company produced watches in limited quantities during the late 19th
century, making surviving examples increasingly uncommon. Hunter case pocket
watches with engraved decoration are especially desirable due to their
protective design and decorative craftsmanship. Early gilt full-plate movements
further enhance the historical and collectible appeal of this piece.
